"When Zahoor Bhai gave up his comfort for this school, I decided I would stand by him too - and I have never regretted it."
Mohammad Mahboob was born on 12 July 1980 in Rataul, the youngest of eleven siblings. As a young boy, he used to come to Zahoor Bhai's mother's home with his own mother for Quran lessons - and it was there that Zahoor Bhai's family first took an interest in his education.
Mahboob completed his schooling at Sant Mary Inter College, passing his High School in 1995 and Intermediate in 1997 - the only person in his entire family to complete intermediate on time. He was offered a job in water supply in Delhi, and later a position as a warder in Tihar Jail - but each time, he chose to stay. "When Zahoor Bhai gave up his government job for this school," he explains, "I decided I would give my life to it too." He joined Salma in 1998 as a caretaker.
Over the years, Mahboob also became active in local politics. He won his first election in 2005 and was again elected to the Nagar Panchayat in 2023. He was appointed to the Congress party's District Thought Division in 2025. Through it all, he has never stopped serving the school or the community - always without expectation of reward. His wife Shabnam Rahman is Salma's senior-most teacher.
